There is an illegal, global supply chain that moves wildlife (dead or alive) from their natural ecosystems to the end consumer. Global agencies, national governments and civil society are working hard to stop this chain, which contributes to the decline in natural habitats and threatens species with extinction, undermining a crucial pillar for many developing country economies. And now we’ve seen how it contributes to devastating global pandemics that can virtually bring the world to a halt.

Our pre-eminent panel will explore the current approach to preventing the supply of wild animals and their parts to the markets, moderated by Dr Max Graham, Space for Giants Founder and CEO.

William Hague; best known as the Leader of the Conservative Party, 1997-2001, and First Secretary of State and Foreign Secretary, 2010-2014, is Chair of the transport and finance task force for the Royal Foundation of United for Wildlife.

Shamini Jayanathan; criminal Justice Advisor to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), in 2013 Shamini drafted the first resolution passed by the East Africa Legislative Assembly, calling for a full range of laws to be applied to wildlife crime and she continues to be a leader in prosecution and judicial initiatives across Africa.

John Scanlon; awarded Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to wildlife conservation and protection, John serves as Special Advisor to the Elephant Protection Initiative and is Chair of the Global Initiative to End Wildlife Crime.
