Stefanie Schneider is widely known for her involvement in the music industry, such as the cover she made for the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ album ‘Desecration Smile’. Working with the distinctive appearance of expired Polaroid instant film, Schneider situates most of her pictured subject in the American West. The unpredictable quality of the Polaroid creates a sense of chance within the result imagined by the artist. Through pictures such as Gasoline, Schneider seems to be exploring the meaning of the verb ‘to expose’ as much as investigating the genre of American subculture.
Schneider’s work has featured in exhibitions at The Perfect World Foundation, Gothenburg, Sweden, Saatchi Gallery London, DZ Bank Collection: Kunsthalle Erfurt, and KW Institute for Contemporary Art.
